At this home in Heritage Point. The mandate was to incorporate a swimming pool into the generously sized but sloping existing yard. Some elements of the property, like the pergola and fire pit area, were to remain so we incorporated those items into the design.
Towards the back of the property, a treated wood wall was built to raise the grade, and trees and large shrubs were strategically added to enhance privacy and reduce wind.
Closer to the houses cut was made, and a retaining wall of Rundle stone was built stamped concrete stairs leading down from the house, thus creating the level space for the pool.
The design we came up with allows for lots of patios and pool deck space made of stamped concrete, providing plenty of room around the pool for entertaining or to get in and out of the sun as the users prefer.
The enclosure provided by the house, pergola, pool shed and trees makes this feel like a generously sized private garden room. There's nothing quite like being poolside on a sunny summer day.
The pool is a steel framed, vinyl lined pool, 20 by 40 in size, equipped with a motorized cover. This runs on a track on the inside edge of the pool, providing a clean line of concrete right up to the edge of the pool so no trip edges or anchor points are required in the pool deck. The cover also reduces cleaning and heating costs. Plus, when it is closed, it adds a measure of safety to the pool.
The homeowner is an avid gardener, and her use of containers and carefully selected annuals really gives this garden a lush feeling, and they complement the perennials, shrubs and trees we planted to provide four seasons of interest. The home owners love their new space, which they make regular use off and are very proud of the addition it is made to their home.
