Long-standing Corporate Members—Thank You!

In this issue of the Gardeners’ Corner e-news, we would like to recognize our long-standing corporate member, The Landscape Artist. They have been a supporter of the Society as a corporate member since 1989—that’s 33 years! This makes The Landscape Artist the longest serving corporate member. Thank you for supporting the Calgary Horticultural Society and being part of our history.

That history includes participating in the Society’s Garden Competitions and Garden Shows. Some of our long-term members may remember seeing The Landscape Artist display at the Garden Shows, particularly when the Society had the landscape booths display competitions and attendees could vote for their favourite display. In 2002, when the Society held Garden Competitions, the Landscape Artist won in the category “Landscaped Grounds by Professional.” At that time, the winners of the garden competition categories became hosts for the Society’s Open Gardens.

In 2000, Clayton Ditzler (Landscape Designer with The Landscape Artist) was one of the volunteer judges for the Garden Competition. A benefit of participating in the Garden Competition was receiving advice from the judges. In his conversation with Susan Moorman (the Society’s Membership Coordinator), Clayton noted that Calgary is still a challenging place to garden, so bringing people together to share their gardening knowledge and experience is valuable. Open Gardens, while no longer competition based, carries on the tradition of sharing advice between members, so when you visit an Open Garden be sure to talk to the hosts and other gardeners.

The Landscape Artist has been providing quality residential landscape design and construction services since in 1977. Their focus is matching the individual needs of their clients with their unique homes. To learn more about The Landscape Artist, visit their profile in our Friends of the Society directory.
