I've been out in Calgary now for about 15 years and we built this house about two and a half years ago and moved in and this is kind of our house that we're we're raising our family with I've got a wife Laura and two kids two daughters ages five and two.
And so the yard when we first built the house obviously this whole neighborhood was a vacant, a vacant field and we were one of the last houses to be finished in the cul-de-sac so our yard was pock marked with holes and stones and and was it was a blank canvas for us to do something that we wanted to with
We wanted a outdoor cooking area we wanted a nice big patio to relax on and a nice green space for the kids to run around on because one of the things that we didn't have in this neighborhood was a playground that was you know within minutes of walking distance so we figured it'd be a nice place for us to watch the kids run around and give them enough room to burn off some energy throughout the day.
We found out about the landscape artists actually through our neighbors the Morins they they had found you guys and recommended and we we started looking around to a couple other landscape companies but for us it was the engagement that we had with David when we first started working it was a great process and we liked a lot of the stuff that we saw on the website, it fit our eye it was very you know as designed by us, we could do whatever we wanted and the process in the beginning felt right there was no pressure or anything like that so we decided to go with The Landscape Artist after that.
We wanted lines of sights to pretty much every feature that we had from the patio so that we could uh we could watch what was going on um from a landscaping perspective I wanted real grass because i just like taking care of something and having that and it's and it's worked out really well. We wanted a lot of evergreen trees I'm a big fan of really big evergreens and having those features in the yard and that's worked out well and the the last feature that i would say was one that i necessarily didn't think of but my wife said we need to have a low maintenance flower like tree bed so the we worked with The Landscape Artist and we got the bark down with the landscape fabric and to be honest I haven't pulled probably more than a dozen weeds this year it's been a it's been as low maintenance as I could expect it to be and that was for me was a big selling feature so that I didn't have to go and do a bunch of weeding to make it look good every time someone came over.
The black mulch is a great contrast with the gray patio stones that we had as well as the the the various greens that we've got going on in the grass it was a nice, a nice feature to complement the the yard for sure.
Obviously I am the i am the biggest golfer in the family but i'm trying to get my entire family into it so i can have more excuses to go play golf but it's it was the opportunity we saw to since with the the size of the yard we had it fit well with the yard and and where it is it's now a thing where the whole family gathers to to practice their putting and shipping and uh the instance the other day we had the grandparents over they were putting and shipping my daughters were out there with golf clubs and my five-year-old was giving everybody lessons on how to do it properly.
The putting green is a full and actually i asked for this when we designed it it's a it's a from I think it's 20 yards in we can chip on the artificial grass or even i had i had a little pitching session with the daughters out the other day would go to the corner of the yard on the on the real grass and chip on to it and you know other than one errant ball over the fence one day it's been great uh we teaching teaching the kids not to full swing has been a been a challenge but yeah i know you absolutely full range of everything from chipping to pitching to putting and it's a year and a half old now and rolls true to to this day.
We've built a few houses now and we've done landscaping ourselves we've done landscaping now with the landscape artist and to be honest uh the process with The Landscape Artist was second to none I was able to work with the design team to design what we wanted and then just let them go there was no I didn't feel the need that I had to come and inspect everything that was going on throughout the day we actually got them to build the fence as well it was another worry of mine that I'd have to play subcontractor between the landscape team and the fencing team as well and I said they took care of that perfectly I didn't have to worry about timelines uh stayed in great communication with us which was my key because we were at work and our kids were we weren't always at the house so we had great communication with the team we knew when they were going to be here and what they needed so the process from start to finish was uh was very pleasant
I absolutely would have suggest uh friends and a family go with The Landscape Artist specifically because of the the customized nature that we can get with our landscape they worked with us to design exactly what we wanted they they presented us a few different options and we tweaked them and and from the entire process was great and i would totally recommend them to anybody that I would that would want some landscape work done in the future.
