The landscape design phase is an excellent place to explore to what degree applying a modern contemporary theme to your landscape will be appropriate.
Other materials appropriate to this style of landscaping are elements made of stucco, concrete, metal, and glass. Again, often in linear forms with clean lines.
In this design example, we first explore a more traditional curved layout, and then transition to a more modern contemporary style, which is a excellent fit for this modest sized courtyard.
Elements at work here include the horizontal board fence, Simple vertical lines of the water feature, large format pavers, and rectangular fire pit and furnishings.
In this example, the pavers lend a touch of modern contemporary feel to the garden, just enough to tie in with the architecture of the house.
This smaller space utilizes a composite deck and a large format pavers. The simple clean lines define the space, making it feel larger than it is, and the plant material helps to soften it into the surrounding landscape.
Strong curb appeal elements that compliment this home include clean lines in the exposed concrete walk, and ornamental grasses.
Fencing is often a place where the modern contemporary theme can be enhanced. Simple clean horizontal lines for the field with strong vertical lines at the posts achieve the desired effect.
Plant materials suitable for this style of garden have strong architectural lines, bold contrasting colors, and textures. The vertical structure in many of the ornamental grasses is an example of this effect.
Hopefully this gives you a little bit of an overview of what can be achieved with a modern contemporary theme. Watch for more of this style of garden to come in our portfolio as this is a trend that is here to stay.
