We have several openings for the 2010 landscaping season. The following general descriptions will give you an idea of some of the possibilities.

Landscape Designer

This position is presently filled, however we do keep those who show interest on file in the event of an opening.

This position usually combines duties of a Landscape Designer with some office duties that are shared among the office staff.

Landscape Design Duties would range from surveying, drafting (using CAD), design layout, plant material specification, grading plans and final color rendered plans for client presentation.

Office duties would be tasks such as ordering materials, preparing contracts, directing crews, and assistance to other office and field staff.

A successful applicant should have most of the following: General Office skills, General Computer skills, Strong English (spoken and written), Knowledge of Hardy Plant Materials, Knowledge of Landscape Construction, and experience with CAD (Computer Assisted Drafting) or Manual Drafting. A diploma or degree in Horticulture, Landscape Technology or Landscape Architecture or Environmental Design is a definite asset.

This position is designed to be full time with more hours in spring and summer and some time off in the winter. A successful applicant must be willing to learn new skills and be able to take some responsibility for learning the additional skills they may require. Some on the job training is provided. Applicant must also possess reliable transportation as our office is just outside the city limit and has no access to public transportation.

This position offers work that will provide the applicant with a wide variety of tasks and learning experiences. The Landscape Design portion will be done under the supervision of our Senior Designer and our Sales Consultant depending on the applicant’s proven ability.

General Labourer (Installations) - Seasonal

This position is mostly physical labour under the supervision of a lead-hand / foreman.

Jobs will include digging, shovelling, raking, wheel-barrowing, laying sod, planting trees shrubs and perennials etc.

Hours vary with the task and the weather but there is usually lots of opportunity for hours if the applicant wishes.

There is also room for advancement in this position and opportunities for further study towards Landscape Gardener Apprentice Certification for example.

Applicant must provide their own transportation to and from the jobsite which can be anywhere in Calgary or the immediate surrounding area.

Wage: D.O.E. ($15.00 -$18.00/hr)

Driver: Pickup and Delivery

Note: requires reliable transportation to our yard which is located just south of the Calgary City limit and is not serviced by public transit.

$16-18 / hr
P&D in and around Calgary with a light truck / van.

Valid Class 5 drivers license, knowledge of city, ability to load and unload items. Mechanical ability and knowledge of Construction & Landscape Products (for example lumber) an asset.

Dump Truck Driver

$16-20 / hr
Valid Class 5 drivers license with air brake endorsement (Q) minimum or Class 1 or 3.

P&D products in an around Calgary with Single Axle Gravel Truck, Move equipment from site to site with Dump Truck and Flat Deck Trailer or Flat-deck Truck. Ability to Operate Equipment (Skid-Steer Loaders / Small Backhoes) an asset

Handyman

$20-22 / hr
Valid Class 5 drivers license. Knowledge and ability in areas such as Mechanics, General Construction, Carpentry, Concrete, Small Equipment Operation and Maintenance (packers, saws, air tools). Ability with larger equipment (Skid-Steer Loaders etc) an asset.

Equipment Operator: Bobcat & Small Trackhoe

Note: requires reliable transportation to our yard which is located just south of the Calgary City limit and is not serviced by public transit.

$20-35 / hr
Valid Class 5 drivers license. Must be able to drive Flat-deck Truck or Truck & Trailer combination to Move Equipment to jobsite.

Ability to operate Skid-Steer Loader and small Track-Hoe for basic Excavation, Loading Trucks, Trenching etc.
Top end of pay scale for highly skilled operators who can Perform Layout and Excavate, Grade, Trench etc with the use of a laser level as per the provided blueprints with limited supervision. Ability to prepare footings, build large stone walls, and other complex features precisely often in tight quarters. May involve some coordination of Labourers on same jobsite.
